The term bandwidth describes the maximum data transfer speed of a network connection under ideal conditions. Bandwidth can be different for uploads and downloads and is usually measured in kilobits per second (kbit/s) or megabits per second (Mbit/s) on broadband lines. Low bandwidth or a saturated network connection can lead to packet loss and/or what is perceived as lag within Second Life.
